K-Mount is the name given to the bayonet mount of PENTAX single lens reflex (SLR) cameras. It is the most flexible, highly backward and forward compatible lens mount for SLR cameras available in today’s market. Although it has seen many variations over the years, the K-Mount has stayed adaptable and has gracefully evolved over last three decades. The evolution has spanned several generations of popular PENTAX SLR cameras, from K1000 to Super Program to ZX-5N and now to K10D. Because of this unique design, one can almost universally use any Pentax bayonet mount lens on any Pentax SLR cameras, film or digital. Most lenses also allow full exposure metering capability in the camera. You can even use screw mount lenses on SLRs with a special adaptor. This allows a PENTAX camera user the tremendous flexibility in choosing from a wide variety of high quality lenses from yesterday and today.
